Mark O’Meara to Return to En-Joie Golf Course

Past Masters and British Open Champion to Play Dick’s Sporting Goods Open

ENDICOTT N.Y. – The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open is proud to announce that 16-time PGA TOUR Champion Mark O’Meara will join the 2012 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Field. O’Meara, whose career was capped off by 1998 victories at both the Masters and British Open, will make his first appearance at the En-Joie Golf Course since finishing T13 in the 1994 B.C. Open. Newly released players joining O’Meara include: last week’s Sr. PGA Champion Roger Chapman, Rochester native Jeff Sluman, current Charles Schwab Cup Points runner-up John Cook, and fan favorite Peter Jacobsen. The 2012 event will be held the week of August 13th – 19th at the En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, NY.

“To be able to further add quality players to our already stellar field speaks volumes about how the players feel about the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open,” said Tournament Director John Karedes. “There is a reason a 2-time Major Champion decides to commit after not participating here in almost 20 years – Mark wants to be a part of the Premiere Event on the Champions Tour – something Dick’s Sporting Goods has created right here in their Hometown.”, added Karedes.

O’Meara has racked up an impressive 33 Champions Tour top-ten finishes, including two wins at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship.

Roger Chapman is currently ranked 3rd in Charles Schwab Cup Points. He is the reigning Champion of the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid. Roger won the Senior PGA Championship by two strokes over John Cook, becoming the third Englishman to win on the Champions Tour and second (Mark James) to claim a Major Championship. He led or shared the lead in each of the four rounds at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, MI. His victory came in his 16th career Champions Tour start. Roger enjoyed a five-stroke lead after 54 holes, and his advantage reached nine strokes early Sunday before he held on for a two-shot victory that made him immediately exempt on the Champions Tour. He became the second first-time winner this season and the first since Olin Browne at the 2011 U.S. Senior Open to have his first title come at a major.

Sluman, the 1988 PGA Champion and 2001 B.C. Open Champion accrued 10 top10 finishes in the 2011 Champions Tour season. He has four victories in his Champions Tour career. He has finished 3rd on the Champions Tour two times in 2012. Jeff ranks 12th in Charles Schwab Cup Points on the Champions Tour.

Cook, who was the runner-up at last week’s Sr. PGA Championship, has two 2nd place finishes this year on the Champions Tour and is currently 2nd in the Charles Schwab Cup race.

Peter Jacobsen, always a fan favorite, has won 2 Champions Tour Majors (2004 U.S. Senior Open, 2005 Ford Senior Players Championship) and 7 PGA TOUR victories. Jacobsen had three 2nd place finishes in his history at the En-Joie Golf Course.

These players will join previously committed Champions Tour members Nick Price, Kenny Perry, Joey Sindelar, John Huston, Loren Roberts, Lonnie Nielsen, Eduardo Romero, R.W. Eaks, Olin Browne, Mark Calcavecchia, Jay Haas, Fred Funk, Corey Pavin and Michael Allen.

The event, traditionally contested in June, will be played in August this year to allow the En-Joie Golf Course more time to recover from the devastating floods that affected our region last September.
